Kenyan R&B and reggae musician, Kevin Wyre, says he is working towards being nominated for the next Grammy awards by the end of the year.
Wyre, who was nominated for the best male artiste category in the
2014 World Music Awards, is setting his sights on the apex musical award
now. He’s received multiple nods for local and international awards in
the past, including the once prestigious MOBOs.
His compatriot Lupita Nyong’O became the first Kenyan to win an Oscar on Sunday March 2.
Speaking to Citizen TV’s Lilian Muli, on the One on
One segment, Wyre said that his aim, apart from winning a Grammy, was to
open up East Africa to the international reggae market.
‘I really wanna put East Africa on the international map. I wanna
see East African artistes headlining International Reggae Music
Festivals and I wanna wave the Kenyan flag high out there. I wanna see
if I can go for a Grammy Nomination,’ he said.
