Igbede Town of Ajangbadi felt the pulse as Star Trek hit Ikenna Recreation Centre in the first leg of the finals in Lagos on Friday, June 24, 2011. The final leg seized the whole Ondo town as Obesere, 9ice and Sound Sultan pampered the large crowd to cool beats on Saturday, June 25, 2011.
With DJ Switch on the wheels of steel, comedian Gbenga Adeyinka The 1st ushered the flashback into the revolution in the Nigerian music. Jamming oldies from Remedies, Daddy Showkey, Plantashun Boiz, Danfo Drivers, Marvellous Benji, Baba Fryo and a host of many others. And at 9:35PM, he brought it back to the new school with 2Face Idibia’s Implication. Dr. Sid and K- Switch arrived at 11:27PM just a few minutes after the series of performances by upcoming acts began.
Beat Band came on at 11:50PM to thrill the audience followed by the 2010 Star Quest winners, The Juke Box at 12:16AM. The Pulse made the crowd go bonkers as they came on stage at 12:22AM with Switch freestyling and then the duo sang their hit single ‘So tey.’ Durella charmed the crowd to a sing-along as he takes the stage at 1:23AM with ‘Enu O se’ and rocked them for 23minutes. eLDee da Don came on at 1:46AM and rocked the stage with his 2 hyper sexy dancers that made the crowd hail as they twisted their waists. Dr. Sid came on at 2:21AM, joined by K- Switch at 2:30AM.
But it was Faze that killed it as he stepped on stage at 3:13AM and rocked for the nest 25 minutes. The gifted singer who was the last artiste to arrive the venue at 1:48AM made the crowd grow wilder at 3:57AM as jammed his classic hit, ‘Kolomental’. Even as the rain drizzled, the crowd still stayed and grooved to Faze’s songs which he performed over a live band. How impressive? He unlike any other artiste that night pulled more attention and made the crowd go wild.
The Ondo town version which was anchored by Mc Laff Up kicked off on a high pitch with a mini competition and performances by home-based upcoming acts. Beat Band took the stage at 11:30PM and handed over to fellow past Star Quest winners, Diamondz Band at 12:45AM. Wale Waves came on at 1:34AM.
However the tempo grew higher as Sound Sultan came on at 2AM to do his magic and handed over to the lanky looking hit maker, 9ice at 2:45AM. Thanks to the wonderful guards, most of the girls who looked like they were going to jump over to go eat 9ice up couldn’t get pass them. ‘Gongo Aso’ kept them dancing, ‘No Be Mistake’ had a bigger fan base; all his songs rocked the day.
Obesere gave the knock-out performance stepping on stage at 3:10AM, the happily crowd all went wild as they dance away. His songs were recited like nursery rhymes from A to Z as they dig it with all their energy.
